Spot Guide - Stein
Duckjibe.de

Location
Stein is a small tourist resort some kilometers north east of Kiel, next to Laboe, which is well known for its ‘marine monument’.

The Spot
Stein has a beautiful, though narrow, beach, which offers a very shallow entry in the water for up to 500m. It is therefore the perfect kite surfing location, but also windsurfing works a bit further out (be careful with longer fins). The spot offers similar conditions as Laboe

Parking space is limited directly at the shore line. You may try it at “Dorfring” or at a public parking space at “Ellenbrook”, a few hundred meters from the shore (choose the street “Zur Steikueste” towards the beach).

There is a wind and kitesurfing school directly at the beach (Tatort Hawaii). For accomodation you can choose between local hotels, B&Bs and three camp sites at the street between Stein and Laboe. There is an EDEKA and Lidl in Laboe (keep left at the first junction on the way from Stein to Laboe and then turn right) and a Nahkauf in Wendtdorf.

Wind & Waves
The beach faces North West and the prevailing winds are south westerly to north westerly. However, best is north easterly. There are some very shallow parts, so be careful.

Due to its shallowness there are only small choppy waves, ideal conditions for beginners.

White buoys limit an area for swimmers in summer, so respect this area for safety reasons. As the spot is next to the waterway keep out of the passage or you risk to get into the way or wake of any ship.

Access
From Kiel follow the 502 towards the East to Laboe and Laboe “Ehrenmal” (K24) and stay on the street K30 to Stein. The spot is just at the entrance of the village on the left.

Alternatively leave the 502 a bit further to the East towards Wendtdorf/Stein (K44) and turn left towards Laboe/Stein (K30).  The spot is at the end of Stein from this direction.
